“Caitlin’s in the DC hospital right now, and Sarah decide to stay with her,” Laura answered.
“Then who…”
“Shh…Xarissa’s flying the jet back to Arizona,” Laura soothed.
Rebecca was at rest for a few seconds, then her eyes flashed back open. “Where’s Enver?”
“Umm…who’s that?” Laura asked, kind of confused.
“Enver Fakaj. The anti-terrorist that was helping us out,” Rebecca said, sitting up. “Xarissa! Where’s Enver?!” she demanded.
Xarissa didn’t look back. “Sarah said he turned himself in,” she said.
"No! Go back to the ship right now!" Laura shouted.
"We just saved you--" Rebecca started.
"I didn't want you to save me. I had it covered."
"How many times have they threatened you, beaten you, electrified you..."
"Only once. And then they went on to experiment a tactic that they had used before, except they didn't really do it very well. Like I said, I had it covered."
"What in the world were you trying to do, Laura?"Xarissa said, getting annoyed.
"Rescue the others before they discover that they have important information too."
"And what's that?"
"I can't tell you."
The other girls sighed in annoyance. Xarissa turned the plane around.
"And who exactly are the others?"
*************************
"So, you were the one who actually knew the combination, not the girl."
"The girl had no idea what you were talking about." Enver agreed.
"So you will tell me the combination?"
Enver looked at the terrorist and nodded.
****************
Rebecca glared at Laura. “No way,” she said. “Caitlin got shot trying to rescue you, and now you want to go back?”
“You shouldn’t have been there in the first place,” Laura reasoned.
“Well, I’m sorry, but I was just worried about my friend who had just been kidnapped. Maybe next time I’ll just leave you to fend for yourself.” Rebecca plunked down into a seat angrily.
"Well, maybe you ought to leave my mission to the person it belongs to!" Laura shouted back. They were now over the Atlantic. “You know what? I'll just take the last miniplane." Laura burst out, walking towards it.
"Laura, no!" Xarissa shouted. Too late. Laura was in and flying off towards the boat.
****************
"So that's the combination? I never knew that it would be so simple, yet so unique."
"Many things are so simple and unique that even educated people would go insane trying to figure it out."
"Yes, yes, what? Were you just insulting me?"
"If you say so."
"Why you-"
"Stop, we have the combination. This man is of no more use to us. Throw him overboard." A new voice said.
"Yes sir!"
****************
“Shoot, Laura. You always have to make it hard for us,” Rebecca hissed under her breath. She stood and walked to the front of the jet. “Xarissa, we’ve got to keep close, in case something goes wrong…as wrong as this already is right now. She doesn’t happen to have a tracker on her or anything, does she?”
Xarissa sighed, her bangs flipping into the air. “I wish Caitlin was here.” She pulled out some sort of keyboard and started pushing buttons. “This’ll take a while.”
“All right. Land here and keep looking.”
****************
Enver looked frightened, but he was laughing inside. So this is it? They just throw him overboard without even checking that the combination was correct? These hooligans really were a bunch of idiots. They hadn’t even really checked for any devices on him before they locked him up. I guess my acting really was that good, he thought. They tied him up pretty good, and even thought to put weights on him. Maybe there really is some common sense lurking in the back of their minds. They walked him to the edge of the boat, and he began to fight. “No!” he screamed. “I told you the combination already! Let me go!”
The man who looked to be the head honcho around the ship smiled down at him. “Exactly. We had everything we need, and we don’t need you.”
Two men lifted him, and no matter how hard he thrashed around and tried to kick, he couldn’t get away. “One! Two! Three!” Enver was thrown into the water.
