"Agent Pang to base. We need a vehicle, now. We are at location 257164. STAT."
Jace stared, confused, then saw two nerds rip off fake braces, glasses, etc., and all of a sudden saw Laura and Rebecca all in black, with awesome sunglasses. A minute later, a black Lamborghini drove up to them. Laura went into the driver's seat, Rebecca into the passengers', and Jace squeezed into the back. As soon as everyone was in, Jace exploded.
“How the crap is all this happening to me?! What the freak are you guys, anyway? It’s not my fault that my dad was in the Chrys Ghoad gang! I can’t believe I even kept the rock.” He put his head on his hands and his hands on his knees.
Laura, who was driving, wished that she could rub his back, which was her way of comforting people, but since she was driving, it was impossible to reach behind her and rub in while driving. Instead, she used words. “It’ll be okay,” she reassured him. We’ll help you out, right Rebecca?”
Rebecca looked back at her then looked back at the road. “We missed our order all for some rock,” she replied steely. “I was actually hungry, you know?”
Jace looked up, desperation poking at the line of insanity. “I’m all alone. No one can help me now.” He put his head on his knees, and Laura awkwardly patted his shoulder.
“Don’t worry. She’s just cranky when she’s hungry.”
"I don't know what to do...my dad's dead, and my mom doesn't know about the organization. The closest contact I have is up in Flagstaff, and that's a long ways away! I can't contact them by phone or internet either..." Jace continued.
"We're spies." Rebecca said calmly.
"And in being spies, we can help you out rather easily." Laura replied.
"Will you help me get to Flagstaff?" Jace asked hopefully.
"If you tell us what the disappearing man is and what he's doing." Rebecca said firmly.
"Anything." Jace replied.
"Then fasten your seatbelt. This is going to be a little bit bumpy." Laura said, pushing some buttons. They were in the middle of an abandoned lot, so it was safe to do this. Rebecca, however, disagreed.
"Laura, I really don't think..."
The car roared, then transformed into an airplane.
"...that you should fly it." Rebecca finished.
"Well, we both know that I got a better grade than you in the aviation test." Laura replied.
"Just be sloooooooooww!!!!!!!!!" Rebecca yelled as Laura sped the plane up into the air.
Rebecca climbed to the back of the vehicle and began to work on some electronics.
Laura laughed as it climbed up into the sky. “You were always the careful one.”
“Just check the airspace navigator. We don’t want to run into any planes,” Rebecca demanded.
“Hey, backseat driver, why don’t you do it?” Laura argued, hiding a smile. She checked it anyway. They were good to go.
“I’m trying to turn off the automatic drive! Or did you forget how this baby got here in the first place?”
Laura turned to look at her. “We don’t need to turn that off. The manual drive always starts when the Lamborghini form changes into a plane. You now that.”
“Keep your eyes forward!” Rebecca shouted. Laura turned back around and Rebecca went back to her work. “Besides, you can never be too careful.”
While all of this was happening, Jace was just staring at them in complete awe. The journey to flagstaff took 15 minutes. When they landed, Jace said, "The informant lives on E Hilltop Ave. and E David Dr."
"Location located on GPS. Estimated time to arrival, 5 minutes." The GPS said as the plane transformed into a 2010 Camry Sedan.
"Great! Now you can tell us about the vanishing man!" Laura said to Jace.
"He's not vanishing; he's simply making himself invisible. The science is too hard to explain. He's a terrorist, to put it simply. His mission is to collect this-" he held up his rock"-and to take it safely back to Kosovo. This rock holds the key to the discovery of something important. I don't know what, but I need to keep this rock away from them at all costs!"
Laura and Rebecca were a little dumbfounded at first, but then realized that this was a save-the-world situation.
"Do you trust us Jace?" Rebecca asked.
"Yes, you've brought me this far.”
"Good, because we're going to help you." Laura replied.
Jace sighed with relief. “But what are you going to do?”
“Well, first,” Rebecca answered, climbing back up to the passenger seat. “We’re going to drop you off at Flagstaff--”
“Oh, no. I’m coming with you,” Jace said bravely. Rebecca looked back at him critically, and Laura hid another smile.
“You think you can handle yourself?” Rebecca questioned.
“Well, I’ve got this far without being killed.”
“Not to mention, with our help.”
“Rebecca…” Laura warned. She didn’t want her friend to start any fights with this poor guy. Especially since she had thoughts about maybe marrying him someday.
“I’ll be able to have your help,” Jace replied. Then his eyebrows knitted together. “Unless you’re planning on ditching me when I get to Flagstaff.”
Laura sighed. “We wouldn’t--”
“Now I’m seriously thinking about doing that exact thing,” Rebecca scoffed.
Suddenly, Jace’s eyes got wide and his voice turned into a whine. “But you said you would help me!”
Rebecca turned around viciously and glared into his eyes. “That kind of thing is going to get you killed. If something happens to us, you need to be able to stand by your own,” she snapped. She turned back, folding her arms. “You’ve already gotten yourself into enough trouble, so why don’t you just shut up and let us do the big stuff?”
Jace gulped and looked away.
“Rebecca Lyn Stapley!” Laura shouted. Rebecca’s fiery glare turned on her friend, but it was met with one of the same degree.
“What?” she asked angrily.
“We said we would help Jace, so we will,” Laura said, leaving no room for discussion.
Rebecca still kept on going. “We’ve already been over this, Laura. We’ll help him as far as we can, but I get to decide when and where we are high-tailing it out of there,” Rebecca answered.
“I think those rules should be changed,” Laura said, glaring back at the road.
“I never said we were going to leave him!”
“Well, you screaming at him isn’t helping! Neither is us arguing!” Laura exclaimed, stopping the car.
“Whatever,” Rebecca said, opening her door and stepping out.
Laura turned to Jace. “I’m sorry you had to experience this,” she told him. “She really is going to help you to the best of her abilities. We both are. She just gets extremely cranky in times like this.” Laura opened up her door.
“Times like this?” Jace questioned, confused.
Laura smiled. “We’ve been through worse situations.” She began to step out of the car when Jace grabbed her arm.
“I thought you said your name was Lucy,” he said.
“Things change,” she answered simply.
“Not names.”
Laura smiled back at him mischievously. “They do when you’re a spy,” she replied, stepping out of the car.
